National Preparedness Month

National Preparedness Month (NPM) is a nationwide campaign held every September in the United States to encourage individuals, families, communities, and organizations to prepare for disasters and emergencies. It is organized by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in partnership with the Ready Campaign.

The core goals of National Preparedness Month include:

  • Making a Plan - Knowing how you and your loved ones will communicate and where you will go in an emergency.
  • Building a Kit - Having supplies ready to last at least 72 hours, including food, water, medications, and essential items.
  • Staying Informed - Knowing the risks in your area and how to receive emergency alerts. Getting involved: Supporting community preparedness efforts, such as volunteering with organizations like CERT (Community Emergency Response Team).

Each year, our department supports National Preparedness Month with a coordinated effort that includes a social media campaign, FREE weekly public outreach events, and a Preparedness Fair. These activities provide opportunities for community members to learn more about emergency planning, connect with local resources, and take practical steps toward readiness.

For 2025, our schedule includes...
