The Department of Emergency Management is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the City's emergency management plan and functions including emergency planning, mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery, and volunteer coordination. Additionally, the office is responsible for coordinating emergency management and operational activities with other departments, outside agencies, and organizations while ensuring the City is adequately prepared to respond to and manage man-made and natural disasters.

The Office of Emergency Management is also responsible for managing the Outdoor Warning System, the National Incident Management System training program, exercise development, emergency preparedness public education, and the Office's social media pages.
