Street Address Visibility

Fading Street AddressThe Haltom City Police and Fire / Rescue Departments would like to emphasize that single family dwellings should have their street address number clearly visible, sized at 3.5 inches by 5 inches, with contrasting colors. The address can be displayed on the curb/driveway approach, mailbox or home dwelling.

There are a number of homes in the Haltom City that either don't have addresses clearly visible or they are in such poor condition (faded, hidden or plain missing) that they are extremely difficult to see, especially at night. This hinders/slows emergency services should they have to respond to such an address.

There are several do-it-yourself address marking kits online and at local stores that are cheap and effective.

The International Residential Code states that:

"The 2012 International Residential Code R319.1 and 2012 International Fire Code 505.1 state single family dwellings shall have approved numbers of a minimum 3 1/2 inches in height, minimum spacing width of 1/2 inches and a color contrasting with the background (structure, mailbox or curb) clearly visible and legible from the street fronting the property and rear alleyway where such alleyway exists. Where access is by means of private road and the building address cannot be viewed from the public way, a monument, pole or other sign or means shall be used to identify the structure."
