haltom city police national night out october 2 2018It's time again for National Night Out! Texas observes this event in October, not in August (due to the heat). In a show of community partnership with law enforcement, our Haltom City residents are encouraged to host neighborhood gatherings across the city on Tuesday, October 2, 2018. Groups small and large participate in this event, hosting neighborhood cook-outs or just a meet-and-greet with their neighbors. Usually events start around 6:30 p.m. and last a couple of hours, however each location may cater their hours to better accommodate their neighborhood.

Citizen's Police Academy Classes

haltom city citizens police academyHaltom City Police Department's Citizen's Police Academy (CPA) offers residents a unique perspective at the operations of law enforcement in our city. The 10-week Academy will be held Wednesdays, August 22 - October 24, 2018, from 7 - 9:00 p.m. at the HCPD Community Services Center, located at 5265 Placid Dr.

Participants will be exposed to behind-the-scenes tactics from actual police instructors. Participants will have hands-on experience with fingerprinting, learn how to conduct a misdemeanor and high risk traffic stop, see how an actual high profile investigation was worked and learn about crime scene and forensics. After graduating you will be invited to join our Alumni group, which participates year-round in HCPD events and volunteer opportunities.

For persons 18 years of age and older, participants should be aware of adult language, content, videos and other material they may be exposed to during this program. CPA is free and is open to Haltom City residents, employees and business owners. Participants must pass a background check and adhere to a standard code of conduct.

haltom city police department explorers programAre you too old for our annual Junior Fire & Police Camp but too young for our Citizens Police Academy? The Haltom City Police Explorers Program might be just the thing for you!

Haltom City PD has room for a few great 14-20 year-olds who are interested in checking out what a career in law enforcement looks like. Our Police Explorer Program runs year-round. We meet every Tuesday from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Haltom City Law Enforcement Center, 5110 Broadway Ave.

We train participants in:

  • traffic stops
  • building searches
  • patrol operations
  • defensive tactics
  • DWI investigation
  • and much more

Candidates will be of upstanding character and will have a clean criminal background check.

methodist childrens homeThe Haltom City Police Department is sponsoring ongoing parenting education and support classes through the Methodist Children's Home. MCH uses the Nurturing Parenting curriculum, working together with the parent to help improve parenting skills. A certificate of completion will be provided after 5 sessions are attended. These free classes start August 22, 2018 and will be held every Wednesday from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. at the Haltom City Public Library.

HCPD - Evading Arrest/Major Collision

haltom city police logoOn Thursday, May 17, 2018, at approximately 12:36 PM, a Haltom City motorcycle officer initiated a traffic stop on a white 2003 Mercedes sedan that was traveling at a high rate of speed in the 5600 block of SH 121 southbound. Upon activating his emergency lights, the vehicle failed to stop and fled southbound on SH 121. The driver of the vehicle, a 35 year old white female, exited Haltom Road and headed northbound. The driver continued at high rates of speed through the residential neighborhoods until she returned to SH 121 and entered the freeway northbound. The driver exited the highway and turned eastbound onto SH 10 in Hurst. The vehicle continued eastbound at a high rate of speed and attempted to turn northbound onto Norwood Drive where the vehicle struck a gray 2015 Mercedes sedan.

The driver of the white Mercedes then fled the scene of the collision on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the female driver of the white Mercedes was taken into custody.

The two female occupants of the gray Mercedes were transported to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Forthwith multiple fractures. Haltom City detectives responded to the scene and are currently investigating the incident. Hurst Police Department officers responded to the scene to investigate the collision. This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released as it comes available.
