Officer Involved Shooting – 2300 McGuire Street
On Friday, May 29, 2020, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Haltom City Officers responded to a report of a Murder in the 5100 block of Ira Street. The resident, William Nickell, 87, called dispatchers and told them he had shot his wife, Betty Nickell, 86. When officers arrived on scene, William Nickell surrendered to officers without incident. Officers went into the residence and found the victim had sustained a single gunshot wound to her head. Haltom City Fire Department and MedStar Ambulance personnel arrived on scene to treat the victim. The victim did not survive her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Haltom City detectives and crime scene investigators arrived on scene to conduct their investigation. William Nickell was transported to the Haltom City Police Department to speak with detectives. After speaking with detectives, William Nickell was transported to the North Richland Hills Jail where he was released into their custody. Nickell was seen by a magistrate Friday afternoon, and his bond was set at $10,000. He posted bond and was released late Friday afternoon. Detectives are still investigating a motive for this offense.
