Starting on the evening of Sunday, August 21, 2022 and continuing through the afternoon of Monday, August 22 Haltom City experienced record setting rainfall. Nearly 10 inches of rain fell over a 24 hour period (with some reports of 12 inches). From the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Haltom City First Responders made eight vehicle rescues and seven home rescues, evacuating 25 residents from the rising waters. City staff assisted in the Emergency Operations Center, coordinating resource requests from the on-scene commanders, opening a shelter for displaced residents and issuing public safety notifications.
Once the waters receded, city staff went door-to-door in the affected areas to offer assistance and connect residents with available resources through the American Red Cross, FEMA and 211. Christian Aid Ministries and Waste Connections will be onsite Saturday, August 27 to assist with home cleanup and debris removal. Damage assessments identified 26 residences and numerous public facilities impacted, one of the largest natural disasters the city has ever seen.
