MINUTES

HALTOM CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL JOINT MEETING WITH THE HALTOM CITY PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD

 

A Special Joint Meeting with the Haltom City Parks and Recreation Board was held by the City Council of the City of Haltom City, Texas, on April 15, 2019, at 6 p.m. at the Haltom City Northeast Center, 3201 Friendly Lane, Haltom City, Texas, with the following members present, to-wit:

Mayor Pro-Tem Dr. An Truong Council Place 1 Jeannine Nunn

Council Place 2 Walter Grow Council Place 3 Linda Thompson Council Place 4 Brent Weast

Mayor David Averitt, Council Place 5 Bob Watkins, and Council Member Place 6 Ricky Brown were absent.

Parks and Recreation Board Members: Dana Coffman, Chair; Board Members Cheri Crum, Troy Dunn, Don Cooper, Penny Clowers, Alaina Tellson, and Don Lemaster. Board Member Harold Fowler was absent.

Staff Present: Keith Lane, City Manager; Rex Phelps, Assistant City Manager; Art Camacho, City Secretary, and Christi Pruitt, Parks and Recreation Director,

CALL TO ORDER

Both Chair Coffman and Mayor Pro Tem Truong called the Joint Meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and gave a roll call for the Council and Parks Board members to be counted present.

  1. City Council Discussion/Presentation on Haltom City Parks Master Plan – Parks and Recreation Director Christi Pruitt introduced Hunter Rush and Ryan Husid, of MHS Planning, who presented a PowerPoint regarding several items concerning the planning for development of Haltom City Parks.

    A discussion between both groups was held regarding the following items:

    1. Results of public input via citizen survey.

    2. Individual parks – upgrade implementations, priorities, drainage issues.

    3. Availability of funds from tax revenues, 4B funds, and possible grants.

    4. Current parks sustainability – ADA compliance, bike/hike trails continuance.

    5. Long-range projects over the next decade in lieu of population growth.

Parks and Recreation Director Pruitt will be making a presentation at the next City Council meeting for approval of the Master Plan on April 22nd.

Mayor Pro Tem Truong and Parks and Recreation Board Chair Coffman both adjourned at 7:28 p.m.
