The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced final revisions to the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations for lead and copper under the authority of the Safe Drinking WaterAct on December 16, 2021. The Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) and Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) amend the EPA’s current Lead and Copper Rule. All community public water systems were required to comply with the LCRR starting October 16, 2024.
The City of Haltom City has initiated an effort to identify every water service line material in the City as required to achieve rule compliance with the federal mandate. The data collected will be used to develop a service line material (SLM) inventory which is the first requirement in the rule updates. Of the City’s 13,500 water service lines, no evidence of lead materials have been found in over the 4,300 lines investigated. As we investigate the remaining lines, if lead is identified, we will notify the affected customer(s).
