Automated Scofflaw Program
The Haltom City Police Department, working in conjunction with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, has begun our Automated Scofflaw Program.
On Monday, November 28, 2011, the Haltom City Police Department sent out 6,645 scofflaw letters. Any person with an outstanding Red Light Camera Violation that meets designated criteria will receive the scofflaw letter and will not be allowed to register their vehicle by using the online format, nor by mail. The vehicle registration restrictions are based on Section 707.017 of the Texas Transportation Code which states if the owner of a motor vehicle is delinquent in the payment of a civil penalty imposed under this chapter, the county assessor-collector or the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles may refuse to register a motor vehicle alleged to have been involved in the violation.
After deducting all related administrative expenses from paid violations, half the remaining funds collected from these fines will be used to fund the State’s trauma center, while the other half remains in a local traffic related fund. Monies allocated from the local fund are used to pay for special traffic safety programs, traffic safety related equipment, and traffic enforcement and safety related roadway improvements.
