North Park Disc Course Upgrades
Thanks to a $5,000 grant from Lowe’s through the Keep America Beautiful organization, Haltom City’s North Park Disk Golf Course is undergoing a number of improvements. The course, from it's inception four years ago, has proven to be a draw for disk golfers from throughout the area. Designed by Brandon Melton, a local resident and business owner, the North Park course has been a work in progress and an example of what dedicated volunteers can accomplish.
Thanks to the grant and Melton, the latest improvements include a park entry way sign and numerous stone walls meant to mediate erosion. The grant paid for the stone to build the walls, but Melton and his army of volunteers donated the labor. Still to come are split rail fences which will help direct golfers along the course, installation of benches made of recycled materials and the planting of at least a dozen trees that were cultivated from seedlings at the Haltom City Tree Farm. Keep Haltom City Beautiful members applied for and have been coordinating grant fund expenditures.“This has been a very good partnership among many,” said Keep Haltom City Beautiful Board Chair Denise Ford. “We’re so grateful for the help, both in money to buy the materials and for the assistance from volunteers, city staff and, of course, Lowe’s.”
North Park is located at 5220 Denton Hwy., near the intersection of Denton Highway and NE Loop 820. There is no charge to play the disk golf course.
