Back to School Fair Wrap-Up
On July 25th, the Haltom City Parks and Recreation Department (HCPRD) hosted their 6th annual Back to School Health Fair at Haltom High School. Every Haltom City elementary student was invited to this event, where they could receive a free vision screening, a free keepsake family photo, a free backpack, as well as access to health information from the vendor sponsors. 750 residents attended this year’s event and 450 students picked up a new school backpack.
The remaining 550 backpacks were given to the Birdville Council of PTAs to distribute to Haltom City students who were unable to attend the Health Fair. HCPRD also donated money to supply 2,000 Haltom City elementary students with free school supplies, which the students receive on their desk on the first day of the upcoming school year.
HCPRD Director, Tom Henry, and Supervisor, Christi Pruitt, recognized the financial needs of Haltom City families with all seven of their elementary schools designated as Title 1 campuses. They raised $25,000 for this year’s Health Fair and school supply donation, and have raised approximately $125,000 over the six years they began the program.
The Haltom Stampede, Haltom City Car Show for Kids and the Mayor’s Cup Golf Tournament are the three annual fundraising events they host to raise all the money that assists the local students and families at the Health Fair and the financial donation for school supplies to the Birdville Council of PTA’s. This annual event would not be possible without the local business sponsors, civic groups, local churches and volunteers that make this event possible. Next year’s Back to School Health Fair is scheduled for Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Haltom High School.
