The Haltom City Public Library's 14th Annual Writing Contest is now open to submissions. This year's theme (suggested, not mandatory) is "Write Up Your Alley". This contest is open to 5th graders to adults, and Haltom City residency is not a requirement. There also is no limit to number of entries, though each entry must be submitted separately. The deadline for submissions is Saturday, May 31st.
Categories are short story and poetry. Age divisions are 5th & 6th graders, 7th-9th graders, 10th-12 graders and adult. Submissions must be typed, double-spaced and not exceed 2,500 words. Formats accepted are print, thumb drives, CD or fax (817-834-1446). You may also submit your entry by filling out this form and attaching/uploading your submission.
Winning entries will receive a gift certificate of $20 from Barnes & Noble Book Stores and publication of winners’ names on the library’s web site. All entries will receive a certificate of participation. Winning entries will be retained at the library.
Entries must have a separate cover letter with the following information on it:
- email (if applicable)
- phone number
- category(short story or poetry)
- age/grade division
Again, do not include this personal information on the entry itself. Instead, include this information on a cover letter that is paper clipped (not stapled) to the entry.
