BISD Community Engagement

Volunteers Sought to Support Local Schoolchildren in BISD
http://www.birdvilleschools.net/communityengagement

bisdlogoBirdville Independent School District (BISD) has developed a community engagement office that communicates the specific needs of each school campus and coordinates the efforts from volunteer groups. They also promote programs that benefit students and families by encouraging participation and engagement within the district. One of their main goals is to have every school adopted by a local business, church or civic organization. There are also numerous ways that individuals can support our schools through mentoring, speaking at Career Days, volunteering for campus events and much more.

They have an exciting upcoming event that you can help with...World Read Aloud Day is celebrated by millions of people in more than 100 countries. This event calls global attention to the importance of reading aloud and sharing stories. In BISD, this event has been celebrated by several campuses, but in 2018 it will be celebrated by all BISD elementary school campuses! In fact, they are dedicating an entire week to this event! World Read Aloud Week is January 29 to February 2, 2018. It is their goal to have each elementary classroom visited by an adult guest reader from the community. If you’re interested in serving as a guest reader for the event, please visit www.birdvilleschools.net/communityengagement and click the "Events & Opportunities" tab.

They are also proud to work with some of our local laundromats in offering Laundromat Libraries. These crates of children’s books are kept on site at each participating laundromat. Children can choose books to read while they wait for their family to finish their laundry. While they would like for the books to remain onsite, so others may also read them, they understand that some readers just may not be able to put their books down! Each crate will be checked on at least once a month, when they will be refilled with more books or changed out to maintain interest.

If you’re interested in helping with the planning of World Read Aloud Day or have children’s books that you would like to donate to the Laundromat Libraries, email Adrienne at This email address is being protected from spambots.
