WT Francisco - Clean Campus
- WT Francisco earned Clean campus Award for 2016-17 school year
W.T. Francisco Elementary has been awarded $500 for being the Cleanest Campus in Haltom City for the 2016-17 school year. Keep Haltom City Beautiful (KHCB) rated the local school campuses on having litter-free grounds, available litter and recycling barrels, and the general appearance of their campuses. Each school also submitted their current projects, events and activities that support the KHCB mission, along with photos.
Some of the programs at W. T. include the courtyard committee, which determined the needs and projects for the courtyard garden and coordinated with student and teachers to complete the projects. Their campus courtyard is utilized by the students and staff for outdoor teaching and animal observation. They have a student leadership team that regularly collect trash and recyclables on campus grounds in order to keep the campus clean. BISD introduced a district-wide recycling program in 2016-17, and students at W. T. are responsible for recycling class materials daily in the school’s recycling receptacles.
Second graders observed the butterfly life cycle and released them into the campus courtyard. They also bring recyclable items from home to build “recycle-bots”. Third grade students grew tomato plants in the campus courtyard, as well as observed larvae turning into ladybugs. Fifth graders attended Camp Grady Spruce, a science camp, where they learned science and environmental objectives.
Congratulations to W. T. Francisco Elementary staff and students for their commitment to protecting our environment and Keeping Haltom City Beautiful.
