Birdville Cemetery Reunion - May 21
The annual Birdville Historical Society's Annual Birdville Cemetery Reunion will take place on Saturday, May 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.with lunch served on the grounds of one of the oldest cemeteries in Tarrant County.
Along with a catered lunch by Schlotzsky’s Sandwiches, the special guest for the 2016 reunion will be local author Andrew Sanders. Mr. Sanders has written a book about the history and the people of the “Garden of Eden”, which is located right here in NE Tarrant County. The Garden of Eden is located south of Haltom City and has been owned by the Sanders family for more than 100 years. You will want to come and hear what was going on in this area while pioneers were busy relocating here in hopes of a better life. Peter’s Colony was dispensing free land, and the activity led to the development of a viable community. Sanders Family members were brought to this area as slaves and later developed their property into the very first African American Cultural and Historic District as designated by the City of Fort Worth.
Mr. Sanders will have copies of "Garden of Eden" books for sale.
Bill and Roberta Reeves have offered to pay for the lunch. Drinks, paper goods, serving utensils and tables will be furnished by the Birdville Historical Society. BHS members are asked to bring items to pass...such as chips, beans, potato salad, dessert or anything you think would complement a sandwich.
