HC Students Set Recycling Record

haltom city elementary school plastic bag recycle challengeJohn D. Spicer and West Birdville, two Haltom City elementary schools, collected and recycled over 32,000 plastic bags during the month of April as part of that city’s Keep Haltom City Beautiful (KHCB). The students at West Birdville Elementary School won the KHCB Plastic Bag Recycle Challenge by recycling 25,912 bags. They received a new outdoor bench made from recycling plastic. Each school also received a garden box made from recycled plastic for their participation in the recycle challenge.

All 32,000 bags were delivered to Sprouts in Keller, a TREX film and bag recycling partner. TREX uses the recycled plastic to create composite deck materials and are becoming the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking products.
