HC Earns "Tree City USA"
Thanks to the work of city departments, elected officials and community volunteers, Haltom City has earned distinction as a Tree City USA. The recognition means that the city is committed to preserving its public trees and increasing citizen awareness of the importance and benefits of trees.
To qualify as a Tree City USA, a community must establish a “tree board,” pass a tree preservation ordinance, put together a budget for tree maintenance and education and issue an annual Arbor Day proclamation. All of these requirements had been met, the latest being the ordinance which was passed by city council in late 2013.
“We are thrilled to have earned this honor from the Texas Forest Service and the National Arbor Day Foundation,” Carol Williams, Keep Haltom City Beautiful Board chair, said. “It proves our commitment to the environment and further demonstrates our efforts for raising awareness with regard to taking care of our city.”
