Haltom City has hired Steve Ross as its new fire chief. Ross's first day was November 7th, 2011.
Ross had been with the Amarillo Fire Department for 33 years, serving the last 14 as fire chief. Ross obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration from Western Illinois University and a Master’s degree from the University of Washington. He has earned accreditation as a Chief Fire Officer and a Certified Public Manager, as well as many other accreditations.
Ross will take over for former fire chief Wes Rhodes, who left the department in April 2011 to become fire chief in Euless after serving in Haltom City for over 25 years. Deputy Fire Chief Joel Thompson has been serving as interim fire chief since Chief Rhodes’s departure.
Ross is married and has two grown children.
