Customers with recycling collection on Saturdays will be seeing a change in their collection cycle. Your last Saturday recycling collection date will be May 2nd. Beginning Wednesday, May 6th, your recycling will be collected on Wednesdays. This does not affect your garbage collection dates of Wednesday and Saturday.

Have a television set that you need to dispose of? Since TVs and most other electronics contain materials that are hazardous for the environment, it is recommended that they not be dumped in landfills. Here are some FREE options:

  1. Take it to Goodwill (the local store, at 3147 Denton Highway/377, can accept working sets only; otherwise, take it to their Computer Works store at 4005 Campus Drive in Ft. Worth which is at the corner of Mansfield Highway and Campus Drive);
  2. Save it and turn it in at Dumpster Day (9 am to 1 pm, Saturday, April 18, I.E.S.I. Convenience Center at 2120 Minnis Drive, in Haltom City).

 Here are some other free or low cost alternatives:
(1)    Beginning on February 15, Best Buy will begin accepting up to two devices a day at any of its 1,006 stores throughout the U.S.
They will accept most consumer electronics, including televisions and monitors up to 32 inches, desktop computers, notebooks, videocassette recorders, DVD players and phones.
A $10 recycling fee will apply to any unit with screens, such as televisions and computers. However, customers instantly will receive a $10 Best Buy gift card in exchange for the recycling fee. The fee does not apply in California or for any of Best Buy's exclusive-branded products, such as Insignia, Dynex and VPR Matrix. Appliances are not covered under the program. (Since ‘console’ TVs are not included – it is recommended that you call first for information.)      Source: Waste & Recycling News

  1. Salvation Army and ARC International both accept working sets as well.
  2. Office Depot takes part in a mail-in program called Tech Box Recycling, with the United States Postal Service, which accepts certain types of small televisions. They typically charge $5, $10 or $15 for the box, dependent on size.
  3. There is also a list of relevant information at wfaa.com. Enter “DTV switch” in the search box and scroll down to the article titled “Where to recycle your old TV.”
