Message from the Mayor

Memorial Day

On this Memorial Day, let us not forget that for 240 years, our liberty and way of life has been secured by those willing to fight for our nation. We owe all those who have worn the uniform of the United States a debt that cannot be repaid.

Yet we owe the special obligation of remembrance to those who have given, in Abraham Lincoln's words, the "last full measure of devotion." They selflessly offered their own lives so that others may live, and our democracy endures.

“Mere words pale in the face of so profound a sacrifice. Let us honor the fallen by our deeds: respecting and caring for the veterans who have returned home, assisting our military families with life's burdens, and ensuring that a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

In our memories, those we have lost are forever young and forever brave. In the days to come--and especially on this Memorial Day--they are forever in our hearts."

May God bless our military, and may God Bless The United States of America, may she always be the greatest, most powerful nation on earth.
