FIRE SERVICES BOARD

CITY OF HALTOM CITY CENTRAL FIRE STATION

SEPTEMBER 19, 2017

Chairperson Suzanne Norris called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.

INVOCATION

ROLL CALL

PRESENT: Norris, Thompson, McConnell, Davenport, Williams, Geltmeier

ABSENT: Austin, Streater

STAFF: Chief Fred Napp, Lt. Derek Wood, Amy West

  1. CONSIDERATION AND/OR ACTION REGARDING APPROVAL OF MINUTES August 15, 2017 - It was moved by Thompson and seconded by Williams to approve the minutes of August 15, 2017 as written. The motion prevailed unanimously.

  2. NEW BUSINESS

    Back the Red Tee shirts the Board will sell the Back the Red tee shirts at Open House.

    Open House – Saturday, October 14th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a table selling all items from Fire Department and Police Department, including tee shirts from both departments, left over Junior Fire/Police Camp shirts and HCPD yard signs. Wanda Carter, Miss Birdie, and her Professional Clown Group, have volunteered to be at the Open House and make balloon animals for the kids and will be doing Face Painting. When setting up the bay area, Chief White will assure that all the kid activities are in one area and the city committees will have a table set up for selling tee shirts, etc. FSB will be set up with plenty of room for both popcorn poppers and distribution of corn dogs. Seating area will be outside the bay. Staff will be available for “crowd control” by making sure the kids area runs smoothly. Fire Safety materials will only be handed out to kids, or age appropriate recipients. Adults will not be given “children themed” items if the child is not with them. There are 100 fingerprinting sheets and ink strips, when those run out that is all that we have.

    Staff will ask Park and Recreations to spray the vacant lot, west of the Station as much as they can before the Open House.

    Halloween Festival – October 28th 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. – be there by 1:00 p.m. will be inside.

    Christmas on Broadway – December 2nd – 3:00 p.m. to 6 p.m., be there by 2:00 p.m.

    Fire Department Christmas Dinner – December 9th 6:30 p.m. Amy has contacted several of the firefighters wives who are willing to help with the Christmas Dinner and the Banquet. They will meet soon and start the final plans for the dinner. We will have Mr. and Mrs. Claus there, firefighters and staff will decorate bay.

    Christmas Dinner for Shift - The December 19th Board meeting will be a dinner with the on-shift personnel. Staff is going to contact several Italian Restaurants about the possibility of having this year’s dinner catered.

  3. OLD BUSINESS

BUDGET UPDATE – Linda Thompson gave the monthly Budget Report.

VOLUNTEER HOURS - All present log Volunteer hours for the meeting. Amy asked that all members counted their volunteer hours and submit them to her as soon as they can.

ADJOURN - It was moved by Thompson and seconded by Williams to adjourn the meeting at 7:05. The motion prevailed unanimously.

  1. CONSIDERATION AND/OR ACTION REGARDING APPROVAL OF MINUTES October 17, 2017 - It was moved by Williams and seconded by Austin to approve the minutes of October 17, 2017 as written. The motion prevailed unanimously.

  2. NEW BUSINESS

    Banquet – March 3rd – The Fire Association will be giving $2,000 to pay for the banquet. The Board decided to purchase gift cards for door prizes. There will be 1 $300; 2 $200 and 3 $100 gift cards. Staff will talk to DOCC about the table decorations they have and will make flower arrangements for the center of the tables that will also be given away. Staff will also contact several possible photographers for the event as well. Jazz Band will be in the back of the far room and a tip jar will be put out and an announcement will be made so folks know they can give them a tip. Linda Thompson will bring her patriotic backdrop to use for photos.

    CarFest – March 24th @ Haltom High (formerly Springfest) – Board will participate this year.

  3. OLD BUSINESS BUDGET UPDATE

Chairperson Suzanne Norris went over the current budget report from Ruby

Leath in Fire Administration.

VOLUNTEER HOURS - All present log Volunteer hours for the meeting. Amy asked that all members count their volunteer hours and submit them to her as soon as they can. Volunteer hours were collected for Halloween and Christmas on Broadway.

ADJOURN - It was moved by Geltmeier and seconded by Williams to adjourn the meeting at 6:55p.m. The motion prevailed unanimously.
