Outdoor Warning Test Procedure
There will only be one tone for an emergency or a test. The difference between a test and an actually emergency warning will be the length of time the siren is activated. If an emergency arises you will hear the sound for a minimum of three minutes whereas a test will only sound for a maximum time of one minute. The sound will be a steady tone and is called an alert tone.
Exception: In the event of an air or nuclear attack, a different tone will be activated. This tone will have a one-sec/one-sec sweep rate and will not be used for testing or other emergencies. This one-sec/one-sec sweep rate is called the attack tone which means it will change pitch every second. In either case of emergency it is recommended you go inside and listen for instruction from your local television or radio station.
